Abstract

This paper investigates protection strategies for WDM networks. We classify related work according to the level of abstraction. Several link and path protection schemes are described and qualitatively compared. Finally, the high problem complexity due to the large number of influencing parameters is shown and selected effects are shown using quantitative case studies.
