Abstract
In this paper we examine the use of macroscopic diversity in cellular communication systems. In the downlink we evaluate the coverage gain by selection and optimal combining macrodiversity. We propose a resource management scheme taking profit of macrodiversity to increase capacity while guaranteeing link quality. The resource management scheme is based on dynamic channel allocation and admission control. Depending on the selected admission control parameter a trade off is possible between capacity and link quality.
